3 Months

I have been in Belgium for three months.

Seems impossible.

I can barely believe it! Time has been marching on and it seems almost crazy to think I've been living in Europe for three months! I thought it would be a good idea to commemorate this marking point with something a little different!

I want to thank everyone who has helped and supported me through all this! It's been a whirlwind and I still have many months to go! I have had a wonderful time, and am very grateful that this has been an adventure I have been able to go on!

Life here is nothing like I expected, but it's been wonderful! I've met new amazing people and made some wonderful friends, I've tried so many new things (foods, drinks, activities), I've been to interesting places (different countries, quaint villages, castles and caves), had fun (carnivals and fairs, bowling and parties, meeting up with friends new and old), have been learning a new language, and been discovering so much about myself and the world around me.

It's truly been an adventure, and it's amazing to think that it's just the start!

Now, I really have no idea what is to come. Honestly, everything that happens just falls into place and I am certainly kept busy with such a lifestyle! Now I enter into the winter months! It will be cold, already is. It will be exciting with all the activities that surround the holidays, but it t will also be difficult as an exchange student. I've also heard that once you get past December the exchange year will fly by... So enjoy it while I can!

And I fully plan to do so!

Now, some random little facts about Belgium I have not yet shared...
  • Nutella is a staple
  • People do not say "God bless you" when someone sneezes
  • You stand when the teacher first enters and remain standing until told to sit
  • Belgians are quite proud of their fries, which are mainly a cultural thing that brings them together
  • From what I've heard bus strikes occur somewhat regularly
  • The 9nth graders were jealous when they found out I had a locker in my U.S. high school
  • For them an hour long trip to the beach... is a long way...

Thank you for everyone who has prayed for and supported me, I greatly appreciate it! And thank you for reading the blog, it certainly provides a unique view of my exchange year!

Until the next adventure, however grand or commonplace!

  1. I remember being introduced to Nutella when my parents brought some back from Germany when I was in middle school. They said that it was used a lot like peanut butter is used here. I just discovered today something called "Ooh ooh ah ah Banana Jam" that is sold in Belgium. Sounds incredibly delicious. Have you heard of it???
