Shopping in Liège

I have now been in Belgium for over a week. It seems impossible that I have been here for that long! Feels like hardly any time at all… quite a strange feeling really. My life has been busy up to this point, and I still have roughly two weeks of summer left!

On Tuesday and Wednesday I went shopping in Liège. I rode the extensive train network for the first time on Tuesday, and was quite jealous! I had known that Belgium, and Europe in general, had a very nice train network, but being on it made it all the more real in my mind. It makes travel so much easier!

Many of the shops we visited were brands I had never heard of before. As I was shopping I could not help but notice the many shirts that boasted English words. I had noticed this interest in English, the U.S. and the U.K. before, seeing people wearing the clothing I now saw on the racks of the stores. But I also had noticed it in the music. When I first arrived in Belgium I was surprised by how many English songs were on the radio; many popular tunes I heard in the U.S. also played on the Belgium stations. I commented about this to Marjorie, and she told me that the younger generation had quite an interest in English. The French speaking youth preferred to learn English than Dutch, the other official language of Belgium.

I would also like to note that I had my first Belgian waffle! And it was amazing!

So no Remicourt yet. Next post, I promise!
