The Grottes and a Château

My second host family, the Servais, invited me to go along with them and their exchange student from Hawaii, Kaela, to les Grotes de Remouchamps, a series of cave networks. I was more than happy to tag along! Not only did I get to meet up with a fellow American, I also got to see some awesome creation!

In the caves we were led down walking paths through part of the caves, then were taken by boat down the river for the second half of the trip. It was dark, it was slightly chilly, and it was damp, but it was beautiful in an earie way.

See that bit of green? Yep, that's a plant. I don't think I've ever seen a plant deep in a cave before...

After the caves Luc Servais, an avid bike rider, took us to a famous incline that's name has slipped my mind. There are many bike races in Belgium, bicycling is a big sport here. Thankfully we just drove up the incline! We had traveled to a section of Belgium that had many more hills and it really reminded me of the hills of Pennsylvania.

After that little side adventure, the Servais took Kaela and I to a château, a castle. The castle could be rented out, and we were allowed to see some of the rooms and the back courtyard. And of course, that was pretty awesome!

Later that day I attended my first Rotary meeting with my host rotary club! It was very nice, every one was very kind and friendly and I truly felt welcomed into the club. As my French improves I hope to be able to better connect with the members of the club.

My life in Belgium has been going by at a steady pace, and though it still seems like a dream, I'm amazed at just how many days have passed since my arrival. It seems unreal. Tomorrow, August 29th, I will be traveling with the Rotary and other exchange students on a daytrip to Brussels. That in itself will be quite an experience with, I'm sure, quite a few interesting tales to relate!
